In this article, we will introduce Moss, your virtual sysadmin. As you know, at Clouding we offer unmanaged servers. Moss can be a great ally if you are a programmer, developer, or web design studio without systems administration knowledge. Moss will keep your Ubuntu servers up to date and let you configure sites and databases without systems administration knowledge. In this article, we will summarize Moss's most important features.
Add a Clouding server to Moss
For now, only servers running Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 can be added. To add a server, click the orange “Añadir” button and select “Servidor”. In the provider drop-down, select “Otro”, enter your server's IP, the root user, and the server name, and follow the instructions to allow Moss access to your server. You can also enable monitoring. When you click to add the server, it will take a few minutes to configure the server; this is normal. Moss disables ssh access with a username and password; access is only allowed with SSH keys. It also configures iptables and updates the server. To monitor the server's resources, you must open port 9100 tcp in the firewall profile. Here are some screenshots of the entire process:
Add an HTML/PHP site
Now that you have configured a server, you can add your first website. To add a site, click the orange “Añadir” button and select “Sitio”. In the next window, choose the server you just created and select “HTML” or “PHP” as the language, depending on your needs. If you select PHP, another drop-down, “Framework”, will appear, allowing you to create sites with Laravel 5, Symfony 2, Symfony 3, WordPress, or another (custom) option. Moss lets you easily monitor the site and/or install an SSL certificate. Here are some screenshots of the entire process:
Add a WordPress site
To add a Wordpress-based site, click the orange “Añadir” button and select “Sitio”. In the next window, choose the server you just created, select “PHP” as the language, and choose “WordPress” under Framework. Fill in all the requested information, and WordPress will be installed. Here are some screenshots of the entire process:
Add a site by deploying from Github
To add a site by deploying from a Github repository, click the orange “Añadir” button and select “Sitio”. In the next window, choose the server you just created, select “PHP” as the language, and choose “Otro” under Framework. Further down, there is a drop-down that lets you choose “Repositorio”; you can choose Github, Bitbucket, or a custom option. Once you have granted permissions to your repository, you can choose a project and branch. Here are some screenshots of the entire process:
