Install Zentyal 7.0 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Zentyal is a GNU/Linux distribution that serves as a web-accessible administration panel. It is Open Source and can be very useful for managing services on the server.

If you have an Ubuntu 20.04 server, you can install Zentyal 7.0 with an automatic installation script.

The first thing to do is update the repositories:

# apt update && apt upgrade

Then download the script:

# wget https://zentyal.com/zentyal_installer.sh

Grant execute permissions to the script:

# sudo chmod u+x zentyal_installer.sh

Then run the script:

# ./zentyal_installer.sh

When asked whether to install a graphical interface, enter "n":

# Do you want to install the Zentyal Graphical environment? (n|y) n

Once finished, it will display the following message with information about the web interface:

Installation complete, you can access the Zentyal Web Interface at:

* https://<zentyal-ip-address>:8443/

To access the panel, we will need to create a user and add it to the sudo group:

# useradd user
# adduser user sudo
# passwd user

Once installation is complete, you can access it via the web using the IP assigned to Zentyal and the HTTPS port  https://IPdeZentyal:8443

A browser warning will appear asking you to confirm that you trust the certificate; add the exception to continue. 

Log in with the sudo username and password.

When you log in for the first time, a setup wizard will appear; continue.

Finally, choose the features you want to add. If you want to add more components later, simply go to the server interface and install them.

When you click install, another screen will appear to confirm the packages to install. Accept and wait a few minutes for the process to finish. 

Once package installation is complete, configure the network. If you have more than one interface, you must configure each one, defining them as internal, external, or local. If you are going to use the DHCP service, it is advisable to use a static network.

 Add the server type and the domain assigned to the server. You can join an existing domain as an additional controller or make it the primary domain controller using the stand-alone option. 

Finally, select a virtual mail domain and confirm the configuration made in the modules. Once finished, you will see the Zentyal administration panel.

If Spanish is not applied from the start, it is best to install it from the console using the provided command. Once done, simply select the language under system, general and choose Spanish there:

# apt-get install language-pack-zentyal-es
