MobaXterm is software that lets you store multiple remote sessions for your servers. In a single Windows application, MobaXterm provides all the essential remote networking tools (SSH, X11, RDP, VNC, FTP, MOSH, ...) and Unix commands (bash, ls, cat, sed, grep, awk, rsync, ...) in a single portable exe file that works right away.
Having an all-in-one networking application for your remote tasks offers many advantages. For example, when you use SSH to connect to a remote server, a graphical SFTP browser automatically appears so you can edit your remote files directly.
Below, we explain in detail how to configure an SSH session for your remote server and save it so you no longer need to enter the login password or add the private key again to connect remotely.
Download the MobaXterm software
First, open the following download link to go to the official website and download the file (a paid version with more features is available). Once you click the product version you want, you will see two options: Portable or Installer. In this case, we recommend downloading Installer.
Once downloaded, open the ZIP file and extract it to your preferred folder. In this example, we will extract it to Descargas.
Once extracted, click the executable and install the software.
Configure an SSH session
Now it is time to configure the sessions you want to use in the program.
First, open the program and go to Session.
When another window opens with options, select SSH and enter your server's public IP address and the assigned username (the default username is root).
Now comes the most important step: adding the private key you created in the Clouding control panel (see the tutorial on how to create and use your SSH keys in Clouding). To do this, click Advanced SSH settings to expand a submenu, where you only need to focus on Use private key. Select the checkbox, click the blue folder icon, and select the .pem file you previously downloaded from the Clouding panel (IMPORTANT: remember to download the private key; the public key will not work). Finally, click OK.
As you can see, the configured session opens automatically. Even if you close it, it remains saved under the star icon, and you can access it by double-clicking the IP address.
We hope this has been helpful. Remember, if you have any questions about this or anything else related to your servers in Clouding, feel free to email soporte@clouding.io We are here for whatever you need. Just ask!
