In this tutorial, we will explain how to configure a domain to host a website in Internet Information Services, the Windows Server web server. We will use Windows Server 2019 Datacenter for this tutorial. The process is similar in other versions of Windows Server.
Install the required roles
The first thing you need to do is open Server Manager:
A window will open. Go to the upper-right corner and click Manage > Add Roles and Features:
The window for adding roles and features will open. Click Next until you reach Server Roles:
In the Server Roles section, select the following option in the list: Web Server (IIS):
When you click Next again, you will be prompted to add the roles, and a list of Role Services will appear. You can leave the default selections, or if you plan to configure SSL for the domain later, select HTTP Redirection.
After you click Next again, installation of the required roles will begin.
Configure a domain in IIS
Before configuring the domain in IIS, make sure your domain points to the server. To do this, configure the DNS zone with your domain provider.
Information
Remember that you can use our NS and configure the DNS zone directly in the Clouding panel.
Once you have correctly configured your domain's DNS zone, return to Server Manager and then go to Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager:
A new window will open with IIS Manager, where you can manage the websites on your web server. Go to WINSERVIIS > SITES, right-click, and click Add Website....
In the new window, fill in the requested details as shown in the image:
After you click OK, the new website will be created on the web server, and you will be able to access it using your domain in any browser:
Information
If you want to go further and, for example, configure SSL for your domain, you need to configure the Bindings to open port 443 and then configure SSL.
