Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) allow the creation of private, isolated networks, enabling servers within the same Private Network (VPC) to communicate securely and efficiently. This functionality improves network organisation, security and performance.
We will now explain how to add a new Private Network (VPC) in our Clouding account. This procedure can be done in two ways.
In the My VPCs section we will have the option to create a new Private Network (VPC) by clicking on the add button:
At this point a modal will open to configure the new Private Network (VPC).
During the creation of the server, you can check the option Advanced mode and then click on Adding a Private Network (VPC) port and below in the list of Select Private Network (VPC) we can click on Create a new Private Network (VPC). At this point a modal will open to configure the new Private Network (VPC).
Configure new Private Network (VPC)
To configure a new Private Network (VPC) you have to fill in the form with the correct data. We also have to take into account what we want to do, how many IPs we want per network, how many subnets we want to divide a network, etc. For this we will need basic knowledge of subnetting.
Here we explain all the parameters that must be configured:
- Name: Add a descriptive name for the Private Network (VPC). This name must be unique and clearly represent the purpose or location of the Private Network (VPC).
- Description: Provides a brief description of the Private Network (VPC). This may include information about the department, location, or any other relevant Private Network (VPC) characteristics.
- Set a default gateway: Make sure this option is checked if you want to set a default gateway IP address for the Private Network (VPC). This gateway does not exist, so if you need routes or different settings to be assigned in DHCP, you will have to manually configure this gateway.
- Default gateway IP address: Enter the IP address that will act as the gateway for the Private Network (VPC). In this example, the default address is 192.168.1.1. If the option to Set a default gateway is disabled, you will need to configure the first available IP on the network.
- Mask: Select the appropriate subnet mask for the Private Network (VPC). In this case, the default mask is /24, which corresponds to a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255.0.
- Preferred DNS server address: Enter the IP address of the preferred DNS server to be used to resolve domain names. In this example, 8.8.8.8 is used, which is a Google public DNS server.
- Secondary DNS server address: Enter the IP address of the secondary DNS server, which will be used as a backup in case the preferred DNS server becomes unavailable. Here, 8.8.4.4 is used, which is another Google public DNS server.
Once all fields are completed, click the Submit button to create the new Private Network (VPC).
New Private Network (VPC) Cost
Starting from October 1st, 2024, each Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) you add will have a maximum cost of €1.00 per month. In other words, we will only charge for the time the VPC is active, up to a maximum of €1 per month (and the cost will be the same whether you assign the VPC to multiple servers or not). For example, if your VPC is active for 10 days, you will pay proportionally for those days. This charge is implemented to ensure proper use of this feature and prevent abuse on the platform.
