Sometimes you will need to create an exact copy of a cloud server. In this tutorial, we explain how to carry out this process.
Steps to Follow to Clone a Server
Access your client panel and within "My Servers" click on the three dots to the right of the server you want to clone, the dropdown will open. Click on the "Clone Server" option.
As an alternative, you can also start a server cloning procedure as follows:
Click on the server you want to clone and, in the "Snapshots" tab, click at "Clone server".
Reminder
Remember that in this case, no Snapshot will be saved, that is, it will not appear in the "Snapshots" list.
Regardless of the method used to select the Clone server option, a "Create new Server" window will be displayed. You will need to enter a Hostname for the server (internal name of the VPS) and a Server name (the name that will appear at the Clouding panel).
In Select disk source you will see the corresponding volume of the server to be cloned has already been automatically selected. No need to change anything, just leave it as it is.
In Select server configuration you must choose the amount of RAM, vCores, and NVMe SSD Disk to assign to the cloned server. Keep in mind that the size of the NVMe SSD disk must be equal to or greater than the original server, it cannot be smaller. This limitation does not exist for RAM or vCores. On the right, you can see the current resource allocation costs.
The other options to fill out are:
- Access configuration through SSH keys. You can set them yourself or just keep the defaults.
- Backups. The backup configuration is optional but we recommend to turn it on to keep your Server's data safe. You have to choose the number of backups (the minimum is 2 and the maximum is 30) and their frequency (daily, every 2 days, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 days). Currently configured backup cost (which is very affordable) can be previewed on the panel.
- The firewall configuration. You can set one yourself or choose the default one.
- In Private Networks (VPCs) you can connect the server to a private network configured by default that will allow you to intercommunicate the server through a Private Network (VPC) without Internet access. Once the server is created, you can create more private networks (VPCs) and assign them to the server if you need to.
You can preview the price of the cloned server with the characteristics you have chosen per hour and per month, with and without VAT.
Click "Submit". In a few seconds, your server will be cloned.
