If you want to install an FTP server on your own Windows Server to easily move files, there are many programs that allow you to do this. The one we recommend is Filezilla Server.
Installing Filezilla Server
The first thing you need to do is download the Filezilla Server installer. Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the steps; here are some screenshots:
Configuring Filezilla Server
Now that Filezilla Server is installed, you can access the configuration:
Inside, you will see that a certificate is already included.
For extra security, add the certificate when accessing the FTP.
Create users in Filezilla Server
Now that you have the FTP server configured, you need to create a user to access the server’s downloads folder.
You will need to add the user, set the password, and choose the user’s path, meaning the directory they will have access to.
Now you can upload files to your server, you can add as many users as you need or even create groups.
Configure passive mode on FileZilla Server
One reason you need to manually assign passive ports on the FTP server is to prevent it from failing when you enable the server’s firewall, since FTP transfers in passive mode will stop working otherwise.
To make it work again, you will need to set the passive ports and open them manually on the firewall.
To do this, follow the steps in this guide: Enable passive ports on FTP in FileZilla Server
