When using CloudPanel to manage our servers, we may need to configure FTP in passive mode to facilitate file transfers, especially if the server is behind a firewall. In this article, we will show you how to easily enable and configure passive mode on the CloudPanel FTP server.
Configuring the Firewall in CloudPanel
Access the CloudPanel dashboard, select Admin Area in the top right corner, and navigate to Security in the side menu. Click the blue Add Rule button:
A form to Add Firewall Rules will open. In the Type field, select ProFTPD Passive Ports, and the port range will automatically appear. In Source, you can restrict the rule to a specific IP or range or allow connections from any address:
Click the blue Add Rule button, and the rule will be created:
Note
When you create a firewall rule for ports 20-21 (FTP), CloudPanel also automatically generates the ProFTPD Passive Ports rule, which enables the passive port range (49152-65534).
Once we have configured the CloudPanel firewall, we have to open these ports in the Clouding firewall:
After completing these steps, your server will be able to accept connections for passive FTP in CloudPanel.
We hope this article has been helpful! 🙂 Remember, if you have questions about this or any other issue related to your Clouding servers, do not hesitate to write to support@clouding.io. We are at your side for whatever you need, contact us.
