OpenPanel is a powerful and versatile tool for managing servers and websites. By default, OpenPanel includes a built-in administrator account called admin, which is used exclusively for administration tasks through OpenAdmin. However, to manage websites, databases, and other resources, you need to create a standard user account. Below, we explain how to create a new user in OpenPanel easily and efficiently for managing your websites.
How to Create a User in OpenPanel
Log in to the OpenAdmin panel with the admin account and, in the left-hand menu, click on Accounts/Users. To create a new user, click the Create New button:
In the form that appears, you will need to fill in the following details:
- Username: The username the account will use to log in to OpenPanel.
- Email address: The user’s email address. If your mail DNS is properly configured and SMTP is enabled on the server, you can send the login credentials by email by selecting the send email option.
- Password: Make sure to use a strong password. You can generate one that meets minimum security standards by clicking the Generate button.
-
Webserver: OpenPanel provides different combinations of web server + cache. The options available at the time of writing this guide are shown in the following screenshot:
- MySQL type: OpenPanel lets you choose between MySQL and MariaDB.
- Select a package: Finally, you need to assign a package to the user. Assigning a package sets limits on various features such as the maximum number of domains the user can create, disk quota, and more. If none of the existing packages meet your needs, you can create your own packages as explained in Managing User Packages in OpenPanel.
Once the user has been created, you can log in directly to OpenPanel with that account from the OpenAdmin interface. To do this, go to Accounts/Users and click the OpenPanel button for the corresponding user:
The OpenPanel interface will then open for that user:
You can also access the OpenPanel interface directly with the new user you created by going to:
