All our VPS have cores from high-end processors for data centers. As part of an upgrade to improve our infrastructure, we have updated the CPU architecture from Ivy Bridge to Broadwell, which is much faster.
Depending on your version of Windows, you will need to use one method or another to find out the architecture of the CPU you are using. Connect to your Windows server using Remote Desktop:
Windows 2003 and Windows 2008
Once connected to your server, right-click Computer and select Manage:
A window will open. Go to Server manager > Diagnostics > Device Manager:
In the middle column, where it says Device Manager, expand Processors to see the architecture of your CPU(s):
Windows 2012, 2016, 8.1 and 10
Once connected to your server, right-click the bottom bar and select Administrador de tareas:
Administrador de Tareas will open. Click the Rendimiento tab. There you can see the architecture of your CPU(s):
If Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge appears and you want to upgrade to the Broadwell architecture, simply shut down your virtual machine from the panel and turn it back on.
Shut down and turn back on
To perform this step, access your Clouding Panel:
For your server, click the three dots to the right of the server (…). A drop-down menu with different options will open. Select Apagar:
A window will open to confirm that you want to shut down the server. Click "OK" to confirm.
After a few moments, the server will appear as "Apagado".
To turn the server back on, simply click the three dots to the right of the server(…) again. A drop-down menu will open again. Click "Encender":
If you repeat the previous step to see which CPU you are using, you should be able to verify that the processor you are currently using is Broadwell.
On GNU/Linux, you can find this information with a simple command. After connecting to your server via SSH, enter the following:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
Look at the line that says “model name“:
model name : Intel Xeon E312xx (Ivy Bridge)
If you see Ivy Bridge and want to upgrade to the new architecture Broadwell, which is faster, simply shut down your Virtual Machine from the panel and then turn it back on.
