You can restart a Cloud Server from the Linux command line by running one of the following commands:
shutdown -r now
The command shutdown -r now sends the SIGTERM signal to running processes. If they do not terminate, it sends a SIGKILL. Once the processes have terminated, it synchronizes the filesystem and unmounts the disk drives so that an "unclean shutdown" does not cause filesystem errors on the next boot.
reboot
As with the command shutdown -r now:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger
These two commands perform a direct reset at the hardware interrupt level, which is equivalent to pressing the computer's reset button, with everything that entails.
Warning
With this command, the system does not wait for processes to terminate, does not synchronize the filesystem and does not unmount the disk drives. You therefore risk having to run a disk check (fsck) the next time the system starts, with everything that entails.
