What are backups?
In Clouding, backups are automatic security copies that are saved for a limited number of times you can configure, and are performed every few days, unlike snapshots which are a snapshot of the server at a specific moment.
Steps to follow to make backups of your cloud server
Log into your control panel. Once inside the panel, you have two options:
Click on your server. Then click on "Backups".
Click on the blue bar, then "Enable backups".
A tab will open for you to configure the characteristics of your backups. To create your first backup, where it says "New backup preferences" you will need to choose:
- The frequency: every day, every 2 days, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 days.
- The number of backups or "slots": the minimum number is 2 and the maximum is 30.
The price of backups
When choosing backups, keep in mind that the unit of measurement for the price is €0.02 per GB. The frequency does not affect the price. A server with 50 GB of disk and 2 backups with a frequency every 3 days, the price is €2 per month. A server with 50 GB of disk and 2 backups with a frequency every 6 days, costs the same, €2 per month. A server with 100 GB of disk and 3 backups with a frequency every 3 days, costs €6.
In the example, we have chosen 4 backups with a frequency of every 7 days. A window will open indicating "Update backup preferences".
At the top, in "Current backup preferences", as this is the first backup we create, it indicates that "Backups are currently disabled".
At the bottom, in "New backup preferences", we will set the characteristics of the backup we want to create. In the example, 4 backups with weekly frequency. At the bottom, in "New Backup Cost" the approximate price of the backups will be indicated. In the example, the price of the server plus the chosen backups is €4.00 (excluding VAT) per month.
Once you have chosen the backups you want, click on the "Submit" tab.
The screen will indicate that "Your first backup has been scheduled and will be available within the next 24 hours".
Once created, the "Actions" icon will appear in red, the status will be "Created" and under the "Available backups" column you will see the date and time of the backup creation. The first backup is ready! :)
Since we have chosen the option of 4 backups every seven days, the first one has already been created. The other three will be created on a weekly basis until there are 4 in the "Available backups" column. After the period of those 4 weeks, the oldest backup will be deleted and replaced by a more recent one, and so on.
