Plesk includes an extension that provides Firewall functionality. This extension is installed by default in Plesk for Windows Server, while in Linux this extension can be installed optionally.
If you have the Plesk Firewall installed, you may need to open specific ports to allow network traffic from different applications to reach your server. For example, to enable traffic through passive FTP ports, you will need to add custom rules in the Plesk firewall to allow that network traffic.
In this article, you will learn how to create custom rules in the Plesk Firewall
Adding rules in the Plesk Firewall
Open the Plesk Firewall by accessing "Tools & Settings" > "Firewall".
Click on the button with the '+' symbol to add a new custom rule.
In the following form, fill in the rule details.
- In "Rule Name" you can assign a name to the rule (optional)
- In "Match direction" specify whether the rule applies to incoming traffic ("Incoming") , outgoing traffic ("Outgoing"), or forwarded traffic ("Forwarding").
- In Action indicate whether the rule will allow ("Allow") or, on the contrary, block ("Deny") network traffic.
- In Ports specify the type of traffic to filter (TCP, UDP, etc.) and the port range to apply the rule to, for example, 50000-51000. If you leave this field empty, the rule will apply to all network protocols and all ports (1-65535).
- In Sources you can specify the IP address (for example, 192.168.1.73) or the network (for example, 192.168.1.0/24), or you can also specify the two-letter country code (for example, AF or ZW). If this field is left blank, the rule will apply to all IP addresses (equivalent to 0.0.0.0/0).
For example, to enable traffic through passive FTP ports from any IP address, you would indicate that the rule should apply to incoming traffic ("Incoming"), select to allow traffic ("Allow"), and specify the port range "50000-51000". Finally, in "Sources" you would indicate the network "0.0.0.0/0" or you could also leave it blank.
Once the rule is created, apply the changes by clicking on "Apply Changes".
Confirm by clicking on "Apply"
After completing the above steps, you can view the created rule in the list of Firewall rules.
