Sometimes we may be interested in changing the IMAP/POP3 or SMTP server in our Plesk for different reasons. For example, when it is a Plesk bug:
dovecot: service=lda, user=mail@example.com, ip=[]. Error: userdb lookup: connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-userdb)
failed: Permission denied (euid=30(popuser) egid=31(popuser) UNIX perms appear
ok (ACL/MAC wrong?), dir owned by 0:0 mode=0755)Although there is a solution for Dovecot in Plesk, sometimes it is faster to change mail servers. This tutorial is about how to change the mail server either through the graphical interface or via the command line—you choose 🙂
We will access our Plesk from our preferred browser and log in.
We will go to Tools & Settings > Updates and Upgrades (Tools & Settings > Updates). A window will open where we may need to log in with the Plesk user.
We will click on Add and Remove Product Components and there we will select the new software we want to install:
We select the new mail software:
To start installing the new packages, click Continue:
After the installation finishes:
If we open the installer again, we will see that Qmail is now listed as the mail server:
We will connect to the server via SSH to run the following command:
# plesk installerPress “Enter”.
Press “Enter”.
Now press “14” to access Mail Hosting.
Here we can choose which IMAP/POP server we want. In the image, Dovecot is installed; if we want to install Courier, we just need to press number 9 and then Enter.
It will have changed to:
If we also want to change the STMP server, we can do it in the same menu and switch to Qmail or Postfix simply by pressing the indicated number.
Once the desired mail services have been selected, simply press Enter once more and the installation will start:
When it finishes, you will see:
We can verify that the mail server has been changed with:
