cPanel is a control panel that lets you manage domains, email accounts, databases, FTP, etc. It is a good alternative to Plesk, for example. In this article, we show you how to install cPanel on a server running Centos 7. You can also use this same procedure on CloudLinux, which lets you control/limit the resources (Ram, CPU, IO, …) each domain uses.
Opening firewall ports
Open the following ports in your server's firewall profile:
- TCP 2082 (cPanel without SSL)
- TCP 2083 (cPanel with SSL)
- TCP 2086 (WHM without SSL)
- TCP 2087 (WHM with SSL)
Before installing cPanel
cPanel performs several checks. With the default setup of your Centos 7 server, you will need to disable Network Manager and change your server's hostname to a domain name. To do this, run the following commands over SSH:
# service NetworkManager stop
# systemctl disable NetworkManager
# hostnamectl set-hostname midominio.comAlso change the hostname so that it persists when you restart the server. Edit the following file:
# vi /etc/sysconfig/networkChange the HOSTNAME value:
# Created by anaconda
NOZEROCONF=yes
HOSTNAME=midominio.comInstalling cPanel
To install cPanel, run the following command over SSH:
# cd /home && curl -o latest -L https://securedownloads.cpanel.net/latest && sh latestInitial cPanel configuration
Once cPanel is installed, go to https://IP-mi-servidor:2087 and log in with your server's root user, then follow the wizard to configure your details, IPs, DNS server, FTP server, and quotas (the disk space users can use):
Getting started with WHM (cPanel administrator)
As an administrator, cPanel provides you with a panel where you can create and manage your domains, databases, etc.
We will show you the most basic steps in the WHM panel. To follow along, use the search box at the top left to search for the words shown in bold:
Creating my first domain in cPanel, search for "Crear una nueva cuenta" in the menu on the left and enter the requested details.
Below are screenshots of the subsequent steps:
- "Añadir un paquete" (packages limit disk usage, databases, email accounts, etc.)
- "Editar un paquete" (you can edit the resources domains use)
- "Actualice/Revierta una cuenta" (change a domain's package).
- "Modificación de la contraseña", access to cPanel for a domain.
Getting started with cPanel
To access cPanel for a domain, go to https://IP-mi-servidor:2083 and enter the username and password you used to create the account. Once logged in, you will see various sections: Archivos, Bases de Datos, Dominios, Correo Electrónico, Seguridad, etc. You can find more information in the following article: Getting started with cPanel.
