Virtualmin is one of the most popular web hosting control panels with open-source (GPL) licensing for Linux systems; it also offers a subscription version with more features and premium support.
It provides domain account management, allowing websites to be delegated to server users; a website owner can be granted privileges to manage email, DNS, databases, web applications, etc.
Updating system packages and web applications can be done from the user interface. It also supports Webmin two-factor authentication, certificate logins, brute-force protection and other security features.
Additionally, it provides log viewing/searching for the system and web server, advanced monitoring, email alerts for services, network status, update notifications for system software and web applications, and current usage details. Virtualmin Professional adds graphing functionality for memory, CPU, processes, etc.
Prerequisites
- Use of one of the Linux images available on Clouding*.
- Access to the server as the root user or, alternatively, a user with sudo permissions.
- Recommended requirements of 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of disk space.
*Systems supported by the Virtualmin automatic installation script:
- CentOS 7
- Rocky, Alma and RHEL (8 or 9)
- Debian 11 and 12
- Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 LTS
If the operating system is not in the list above, it will fail. You can find more details at:

Preliminary steps (optional)
To save yourself configuration work later, you can change the server's hostname to the DNS record you have pointing to the server's IP address. Adapt the following command and run it:
# hostnamectl set-hostname ejemplo.comAdditionally, you can also change the PTR record (Reverse DNS or rDNS) to the same DNS record from the Clouding panel for the server in question.
Installing the GPL version
Virtualmin provides a single automatic installation script for all supported systems; you can download and run it to automate the process.
To do this, you can go to the temporary directory and download the automatic installation script for the GPL version:
# cd /tmp && wget https://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/virtualmin-install.shAdd execute permission to the file for the user:
# chmod 700 install.shThen run the script:
# /bin/sh install.shYou must answer yes to the automatic installer's questions, and when the process finishes, it will display a link.
Note
You must open the Virtualmin panel port (by default, TCP 10000) in the Firewall on Clouding to access the panel through a browser. You can create a rule in the server's assigned profile or add an additional profile (How to create a firewall rule).
Enter the link provided by the installer in a browser and enter the user's credentials on the login screen to access the panel.
