Introduction
By default, Windows Server only allows one simultaneous Remote Desktop session per user, but you can modify this by making a few changes in the server's group policies. In this article, we’ll explain how to modify the necessary policies, and the method applies to all Windows Server versions starting from Windows Server 2012.
Additionally, you may be interested in reading the article Configure a second user for Remote Desktop and remember that two simultaneous sessions is the maximum allowed without Terminal Server licenses.
Procedure
Within a session on the Windows Server remote server using a user account with administrator privileges on that server, open Windows Run and type gpedit.msc to open the "Local Group Policy Editor" console. You can also search for it in the start menu as "Local Group Policy Editor" to open it.
Once the console is open, navigate to "Computer Configuration", "Administrative Templates", "Windows Components", "Remote Desktop Services", "Remote Desktop Session Host", and then "Connections". Double-click on the policy "Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session", check the "Disabled" option, apply the changes, and close the window.
Then, double-click on "Limit number of connections" in the same section, enable it, and set the maximum number of Remote Desktop connections you wish to allow (you can also set it to unlimited by configuring it to 999999). Afterwards, apply the changes and close the window.
It should look like the following screenshot once these actions have been completed:
Therefore, you will now be able to have all recurring sessions from the same user depending on the number you have allowed/set as a limit.
